TTU SRC Akwaaba Week Celebration To Be Climax with Grand Durbar On 16th November


The Student Representative Council of Takoradi Technical University in the EKMA Municipality of the Western Region has promised to serve revelers an exciting celebration in this year's Akwaaba Week celebrations slated between November 13 and November 18.

The Akwaaba Week Celebration since its commencement in 2016 has undoubtedly become one of the flagship celebrations in Takoaradi Technical University, thereby winning a spot on the school’s calendar.

Speaking at the student’s forum last Thursday at the school’s auditorium, the President of the Student Representative Council noted that this year's celebration which emerges as the 3rd Akwaaba week celebration with the Theme Equipping University Students With Entrepreneurial Skills A Means Of Addressing Graduate Unemployment. stands laced with series of exciting activities aimed at offering a more intriguing celebration.

Hon. Foster Semabia (SRC President) said, "over the years, the SRC have been working hard to improve on the week celebration and this year has been no exception, as we are poised to serve our student body and visitors a better and more exciting week celebration."


He added that the week is strategically organized to bring the entire student body together as one and create a sense of belongingness to the University community as we embark on various educative and entertaining programmes. These programmes are earmarked to connection the opening between the Students’ Representative Council and the Student body as a whole as well as the corporate world.
The SRC Akwaaba week will receive publicity via banners, flyers, posters, media jingles, media interviews, bulk texts, electronic advertising screens in the various hostels and other forms of publicity. The SRC week celebration has over the years ensured that, majority of the students’ populace and the University’s staff at large participates in one activity or the other and provides greater opportunities to enrich the educational needs of our dear students as it may not be gained from the lecture halls but outside the lecture halls.

Some of the major objectives of the week celebration are as follows;
1.      To improve the amity among the SRC, school authorities and the entire student body.
2.      To create new platforms to help exhibit and promote various talents of students.
3.      To impute a sense of belongingness into the entire student body.
4.      To create the prospect for everyone to experience the culture, participate in educational programmes and develop their creative abilities.
5.      Bringing students up to speed on the link between the SRC, school authorities and corporate institutions.

TUESDAY 13TH NOVEMBER
CANDLE LIGHT PRECESSION
The purpose of the Candle light Precession is to usher the freshers into the University Community. A candle is lit by the SRC president and the students tap from his light source. Students then roam around the university environs and then back to campus. This precession also creates an avenue for students to socialize and become acquainted with the community.

WEDNESDAY 14TH NOVEMBER MORNING
LAUNCHING OF THE AKWAABA WEEK AND HEALTH SCREENING
The Akwaaba week would be launched at the University auditorium in the morning and then followed by health screening of students. The theme for this year’s Akwaaba week celebration is “Equipping Technical University Students with Entrepreneurial skills, a means of addressing Graduate unemployment”.

WEDNESDAY 14TH NOVEMBER EVENING
CLASH OF THE TITANS
Clash of the titans is a social event organized by the SRC of TTU for the various halls of residence. This is a “morale or Jama” competition between the halls on the University campus. The purpose of this event aside the socialization factor is that, it helps to outdoor the prowess of these halls to the university community and the nation as a whole, per the exposure given them not ,as a rowdy association, but that of unity through “jama or morale”

THURSDAY 15TH NOVEMBER
YOUNG PEOPLE EMPOWERMENT SUMMIT
The young people empowerment summit would come off on the above stated date at the University Auditorium 10am in the morning. The goal of this summit is to have leaders and entrepreneurs from all walks of life educate, inspire, and empower our students and also help prepare them for life after tertiary.

MOVIE/ CINEMA NIGHT
The movie night commences at 7pm at the university auditorium. A movie would be showed to entertain students with refreshment as well.

 FRIDAY 16TH NOVEMBER
GRAND DURBAR /STREET CARNIVAL/EXHIBITION & FOOD FEST
The grand durbar /street carnival/exhibition & food fest is one of the biggest events amongst other events of the week.
The Climax of the week celebration is the Grand Durbar which will be held on 16th November where the SRC President will sit in state with other dignitaries like stakeholders, members of parliament, chiefs, management of the University, alumni’s and very important dignitaries as well as students.
It is an all African regalia day with rich display of culture and art and the purpose of this durbar is to have these dignitaries and stake holders enlighten students about what is expected of them by the community and Ghana at large.
There would be addresses from the university’s Vice Chancellor, faculty deans and all the above-mentioned dignitaries to address the issue of graduate unemployment and student in entrepreneurship.
There would also be a display of Art and exhibits by our students from all faculties to raise funds for SRC projects.
The food fest is not an exception here. Student leaders would participate in a cooking competition after the durbar whiles the street carnival is ongoing.

SATURDAY 17TH NOVEMBER
FLOAT
There would be a float dubbed “Say No To Drug Abuse” with the purpose of sensitizing the youth of TTU and that of Sekondi – Takoradi metropolis to abstain from drug overdose and illicit drugs. Students would walk through the streets of Sekondi – Takoradi and others in trailers (vehicle) as well from 6am to 11am.


ARTISTE OR VARIETY NIGHT
The variety night show comes off on Saturday 17th November at the University field and begins at 7pm. This event is solely to entertain the university community.

SUNDAY 18TH NOVEMBER
THANKS, GIVING SERVICE
There would be a thanks giving service at the University auditorium from 8am to 12pm.

POOL PARTY
There would be a pool party after the thanks giving service to wrap it all up at ABOADZE/ VRA at 2PM.
